Bread Machine Hamburger Buns!

I’ve successfully made all of my bread from scratch for the whole year so far, thanks to the help of my bread machine! These homemade Bread Machine Hamburger Buns are perfect for cheeseburgers, Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork, and loose meat sandwiches like my Super Easy “Ranch” Burgers!

Tips and Variations For This Recipe

  • These homemade hamburger buns are SO EASY! Using a bread machine ensures that the dough is kneaded and risen to perfection. The result is a perfectly golden brown bun with a soft interior, but it’s strong enough to hold up to your favorite burger bun needs without crumbling or getting soggy.
  • Be sure to check the consistency of the dough between the mixing and rising cycles on your bread machine. It should be smooth and elastic, and not sticking to the side of the bread machine pan. If it’s too dry add a little water; too wet or sticky, add a bit more flour.
  • As with all bread machine recipes, you don’t HAVE to use a bread machine. Just mix up the dough with a stand mixer or with a good ‘ol wooden spoon, let it rise, then follow the later steps of this recipe.

What You Will Need

  • 1 C. water, lukewarm
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1½ tsp. salt
  • 3¼ C. all purpose flour
  • 2¼ tsp. bread machine yeast
  • 1 egg + 2 Tbsp. water, for egg wash
  • sesame seeds, optional

How To Make Bread Machine Hamburger Buns

  • Add all the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order they’re listed above, or in the order recommended by your bread machine’s manufacturer. Select the dough cycle and press start. This cycle mixes, kneads, and rises the dough, but doesn’t bake it.
  • Once the dough cycle is finished, punch down the dough to let all the air out and dump it out onto the counter. Divide the dough into 8 equal parts by cutting it in half, then each half in half, etc. until you have 8 piece. You can use a scale if you want them to be exactly equal.
  • Gently make them into rolls by pulling the outsides of the dough into the center. Place seam side down onto a parchment lined cookie sheet. Mix together an egg and 2 Tablespoons of water to create the egg wash, then brush a thin layer of the egg wash over each bun. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Cover the cookie sheet with a clean towel and let the buns rise until they nearly double in size, or for about an hour. Near the end of the hour, preheat the oven to 375℉. Bake for 15-17 minutes or until the buns are a deep golden brown. Let cool completely before slicing.
  • These bread machine burger buns can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for 2-3 days or for up to 6 months in the freezer!
